About Oakhaven
We are a small kennel located in a rural area about 30 miles southeast of Richmond VA. Oakhaven is situated on over 8 acres of wooded tranquility. Puppies are available only occasionally, as we breed for health and temperament; believing in the total German Shepherd Dog. Our dogs are family members and have impeccable temperaments. I was raised with shepherds. My mother dabbled in breeding and had some of her dogs shown in the early 60's. I purchased my first bitch after my children were older, so I could devote the time needed to raising, training and showing dogs. Oh, there is never enough time (or money)!
Anyway, our beloved Belcani's Cherokee of Berkshire, "Cherokee", came to live with us almost 11 years ago. I am proud that she is still vibrant and healthy (check out her page). Believe me, she is still the Queen around here too. Out of her first breeding to Ch. Autumn's Shaquille, ROM, I kept my pride and joy "Bruiser" who became our first Champion. We were so pleased with this litter that we did a repeat breeding which produced our Bria and Bo.
Now that we are empty nesters we have a little more time for playing, raising, training and showing dogs, but just a little. I still have to work to support my "habit" of dogs. I am a registered nurse working in home health care. Our policy is to breed for "Beauty, Balance and Brains". We are signers of the GSDCA Breeders Code of Ethics. Our breeding bitches and studs are OFA certified and our puppies are health tested and guaranteed.
